‘Brave kids’ is definitely up there on my mental list of ‘how to be a good parent’ but how to achieve this? Your guess is as good as mine!

Thank you to all parents, teachers and support staff in early childhood and education settings who nourish, grow and support kids every day ☺️
P. S. 2 days until our Xmas orders close! Last Saturday, my 4.5 year old had a complete meltdown. Our family had been through a big week between work, kindy and end of year events. He was crying and unable to tell me what was wrong. The crying was a sign that we hadn't had much time to really connect.

What did I do in that moment?

I picked him up, sat down on the couch and started reading a book to him. Since he was a baby, reading to him has been a huge source of comfort and connection, almost like a magical reset button to a rough day. By the time we had finished reading, he was calm and we were able to talk about why he was so upset. ❤️
Is there a specific way you connect with your child? Is it through books? We'd love to know - leave us a comment 😊

So what should we expect in terms of speech and language from a (terrible or not so terrible) two year old?

🤩Does your child know the tricky word ‘occupation’?
🏠Can your child name 5 different places?
👊Our mantra at Little Birdie Books is that “it doesn’t matter how you play, but here are some ideas for what to say!”
✨Our speech language pathology knowledge of communication development combined with practical suggestions for learning through play at home can be found in our activity cards pictured above! Link in bio This is one of our favourite alphabet books! Highlighting the alphabet is not the only thing you can do while reading this book. Here are some language and early literacy skills you could consider:
💙
• First sound awareness (find me something that starts with a 'r' sound) • Word categories (There are lots of 'places' in a neighbourhood) • Similarities and differences (A shark has fins but an octopus has tentacles!) • Function of objects (We use ovens to bake or roast food) • Absurdities (it's odd for an owl and a cat to be sharing a boat!) • Story starter (One stormy night in the deep blue sea, a mermaid was singing a lullaby...)
